Cross-Polarized/Magic Angle Spinning 13C-NMR

High resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectra can be obtained for rigid solids by combining Cross Polarization (CP) with Magic Angle Spinning (MAS). One unique analysis at RISE is the ability to measure the specific surface area of cellulose in water swollen state. The method utilizes solid state CP-MAS NMR spectroscopy. The supra-molecular structure of wood fiber wall cellulose affects material properties as diverse as chemical reactivity and mechanical strength.
