The engineering aim brought forward in the project is to produce composities by using chemically modified fibres and nanocellulose and use these as reinforcing-structural elements in a polymer matrix. The resulting composites material must be manufactured with conventional, possible slightly modified, polymer processing techniques in order to be technically feasible.
The scientific goal is to obtain an understanding of the rheological behavior of fibers suspended in polymer solutions-melts and propose relevant rheological models contributing to the operation and other relevant manufacturing techniques. Rheological studies also provide an insight into the structure of the final nanocomposites (dispersion and distribution of particles) and thus constitute a valuable tool for possibly assessing a relation between rheology, structure and mechanical performance.
