Lignin Toughening Gels.The project focuses on developing etherified lignin with enhanced solubility in acrylic acid to toughen poly(acrylic acid) gels. The modification selectively converts lignin’s phenols and carboxylic acids into aliphatic hydroxyl groups by using cyclic carbonates as reagents and solvents, improving compatibility and reactivity. The study aims to investigate the relationship between lignin's structural variations and gel performance, providing insights into toughening mechanisms and optimizing these materials for diverse applications.
