ForMAX beamline celebrates 1 year of advancing the research
Today the ForMAX beamline at MAX IV Laboratory celebrates its first anniversary since officially opening for users. The beamline is specifically designed for the research and development of materials from the forest and unique in its kind.

Since the start, ForMAX has provided new capabilities for research on sustainable materials from renewable forest resources.  Some of the milestones that has been achieved are:

  • The very first experiment at the beamline, made by researchers from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Wallenberg Wood Science Center.
  • The first industrial experiment:  a study on sustainable material candidates to substitute plastic in straws by Tetra Pak in collaboration with researchers from Chalmers and the research centers FibRe and WWSC.  This study was also one of the first experiments at the beamline.

ForMAX is accessible via the MAX IV user program, where research projects associated to Treesearch have prioritized access to parts of the available time.

“ForMAX supported many interesting experiments during our first year of operation. We look forward to a continued, fruitful collaboration.”, says Kim Nygård, beamline manager at MAX IV.

Examples of on how to use ForMAX for gaining new knowledge were given during the conference  Treesearch Insight in May 2023, that was the very first conference where users from ForMAX presented results.

ForMAX is funded by Knut och Alice Wallenbergs Stiftelse and the Swedish industry via Treesearch.
