Research area:
- My research focuses on valorization of cellulose-based fibers, like viscose and cotton, from waste textiles. Since waste textiles is a very complex waste stream, my research aims at studying and developing different valorization pathways depending on the characteristics of the cellulosic fibers. One such example is developing methods to convert waste textiles into dissolving pulp, and comparing it to dissolving pulp made from wood, for the production of viscose. Other pathways include investigating the viability of methods typically employed in biorefineries on the valorization of waste textiles. The idea is to produce a set of tools that can successfully transform cellulose from the complex raw material that is waste textiles into a variety of valuable products, depending on the quality and characteristics of the feedstock, following the biorefinery concept.
- Research theme: 2-biorefinery, 3-material forming
