Production of nanofibers and porous biofilm from weat bran extraction residue

- Extraction of polysaccharides from plant biomass sources such as agricultural wastes not only yield valuable biopolymers but also generates substantial quantities of residual material as a byproduct. These insoluble residues are extremely recalcitrant due to the high cellulose and lignin content and traditionally, they might be discarded or burned. However, in the context of circular economy, material efficiency and green chemistry, valorizing these plant-based leftovers into structural materials holds significant promise. For this aim, we have produced nano fibres using electrospinning from the residue of alkaline extraction of wheat bran using TFA as a dissolving agent. Moreover, a porous biofilm was produced out of the dissolved residue by phase inversion in water after one minute air gap. The morphology of the produced materials was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The produced biomaterials could be used for various application such as biomedical application and energy harvesting.
