In the last few decades, significant interest has arisen in the use of cellulose in conjunction with electrically conductive materials for a wide range of applications, from energy storage and actuators to sensors. The primary driving force for selecting cellulosic materials stems from their intrinsic and extrinsic properties, such as high flexibility, processability, chemical stability, and mechanical robustness. However, despite numerous research efforts in this field, the interaction mechanism between cellulose and conducting materials is still not well understood and requires further investigation. Therefore, this project studies the mechanisms of tailoring the structure and surface chemistry of cellulose surfaces to enhance electronic and ionic conductivity, as well as the processes for fabrication, such as papermaking and 3D printing.
