PhD project: Interaction at the nanoscale between wood (cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose) and conductive polymers with emphasis on polythiophenes;
Supervisor: Isak Engquist
Dissertation planned to: 2028-01-01
Research area:
- My PhD project focuses on (i) an improved understanding of the interactionat the nanoscale between wood (cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose) and conductivepolymers with emphasis on polythiophenes; (ii) Understanding the conditions underwhich conductive polymers can form in wood structures; (iii) Pretreatment methods ofwood that enhance the formation and/or diffusion of conductive polymers in wood; (iv)Improved electrical conductivity and long-term stability of conductive wood. The workwill involve the design/preparation of conductive wood and characterization withparticular emphasis on molecular interfaces and interactions, using methods such asSEM, X-ray scattering, FTIR, XPS, AFM, as well as electrical and electrochemicalcharacterization of macroscopic properties.
- Research theme: 1-wood components, 2-biorefinery, 3-material forming, 4-material concepts
