COVID-19 update (May 2021). Covid vaccination has started so we hope that courses given during summer and autumn will be perfomed in the traditional way and we will meet in person, with the complementary possibility to attend on-line.
Treesearch is following the recommendations from the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the local restrictions from the Treesearch partners. Due to health concerns and  travel restrictions all courses to the end of june 2021 will be given as on-line courses.

From chip to pulp and paper – Bootcamp course

Course content:

This boot camp gives you the knowledge and skills of transferring wood chips into pulp and paper. From one perspective it is an intensive and rigorous course, from another perspective it is team-work, transfer of theoretical knowledge to practical laboratory work and work at the Pilot Paper machine FEX in Stockholm. After the course you will have knowledge on how origin of wood (specie)-process conditions and material forming affects properties of the produced product.

An overview of the forest industry, Wood and Fiber Morphology and Wood Chemistry.

Insight in the processes of Wood handling and processes of pulping, delignification and bleaching.

Characterization of pulp.

Transformation of pulp into paper and board including all steps from fibre selection, refining, wet- and dry strength additives, fractionation, wet-end forming to Pressing and drying.

Transformation into products methodologies such as calendaring, coating, converting (printing & packaging)

Overview of analysis methods and characterization techniques (Mechanical properties, stiffness, strength, fibre orientation)

Chemical process within the mill (Chemical recovery in kraft pulping, generation of bleaching chemicals and water purification in forest industry)
