The project involves the development of new experimental methods to characterize deformation processes in fiber-based materials, in particular paperboard. The experiments are to be performed on several scales, from micro to macro, and aim to increase understanding of the mechanisms that control the mechanical properties and behaviour of the material. Experimental devices that can be used to perform experiments with simultaneous x-ray tomography will be developed. The project also involves the development of numerical tools for processing 3D and 4D data (3D + time). Both the 4D-Imaging lab at LTH and international synchrotron facilities will be used to characterize mechanisms in space (3D) and time (4D). The results generated in the project will, in addition to providing increased understanding, also be used as the basis for the development of numerical models.
