Project: Bio-based fiber and nanomaterial composites
Supervisor: Tiina Nypelo
Project planned to end: 2020-08-31

Research area:
- The researcher will work on the formulation and preparation of wood-based composites in a scale that enables resolving flow field – filler/additive interactions. The starting point will be cellulose nanoparticles. Project Goals: • Resolve cellulose nanoparticle flow and rheology characteristics in concentrated dispersions and its relation to manufacturing and processing. • Relate composite microstructure-manufacturing-performance in a scale relevant for sustainability conscious industries. • Develop flow-based processing for cellulose nanoparticles for films and coatings. • Develop realistic constitutive models including the effects of composition on the material shear and extensional thermo-rheological (flow) response
- Research theme: 1–wood components, 4–material concepts
